When you open Instagram the first message you read on Lana Volkov's account is: "Powerful shoes designed by a woman for a woman", a sort of payoff that encompasses all Volkov's way of thinking.
Creating and designing shoes has always been a passion. In my teens, I dived into the artisanal trade and started hand making shoes for both men and women. I created shoes for all occasions, from fashion shows, parties to weddings. Being a cobbler helped me learn many techniques I may have not known, if I didn’t know how to build a shoe with my hands!
I love working with my hands and getting them dirty so I guess hammering on or using the glue or the solvents never really phased me.
Realising my brand has been a dream of mine ever since I could remember and after my studies and learning the trade, I decided I was ready to create my brand. I was focused entirely on designing women's footwear. So here I am creating beautiful uplifting shoes that express the essence and character of the modern woman!
LANA VOLKOV
Lana was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. Now she resides in Italy.
She worked, studied and travelled to different parts of the world to learn how to best express her art through shoes. Australia, Italy, China and Indonesia were all important places for her learning how to be a shoe maker and designer.
Lana's passion for shoes began during her childhood and by the age of 21 she had already started hand making and selling her shoes internationally.
Lana Volkov’s custom made shoes have graced the runways at Melbourne Fashion Week, Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, The Fringe Festival, L’oreal Melbourne Fashion Week, Myer Fashion on the Fields, featured on Fashion TV Australia, BAZAAR and Buzzfeed online and in fashion magazine editorial publications internationally.
With the recent launch of her Made in Italy brand, Lana has already showcased her shoes at Altaroma during Rome fashion week, in her showroom in Milan during Milan Fashion Week , White Milan and in Paris at Premiere Classe during Paris Fashion Week. Lana was also selected as one of the top 10 finalists in the A talent for shoes international competition run by Cercal and Sammauroindustria.
The anatomy of the foot intrigues me, especially the silhouette. I don’t want to hide the foot in material, my aim is to compliment it, I want my shoes to be like a perfectly cut couture gown; beautifully form fitting, perfectly crafted
GOOD VIBES ONLY It sounds like a simple motivational phrase, but it isn't. When you talk about positive energies you often only think about something abstract such as having positive thoughts, being optimistic or not worrying about the future. A few weeks ago I had the immense pleasure of talking to the luxury shoe designer Lana Volkov through a video call for an hour and a half and I think the sensations I felt are really good vibes. I have not only perceived them but I have been able to see them in my mind! I saw the light in her eyes, the enthusiasm for creativity drawing beautiful smiles on her face… and I imagined the colors!
COLORS
I adore fashion, especially because I love how colors are used in garments and accessories to express emotion and to lift and empower you. I believe color is Fundamental
For Lana, color is life, is happiness, is what can change a sad day into a better day.
Color is movement and everything that catches Lana's attention is a source of inspiration.
Everything inspires me! My mind is continuously racing with designs, whether it is something I see, or touch, maybe something I feel - it inspires me. Design is a rich tapestry of sensory and intellectual experience
STAY HIGH
It is with the expression "If you stay high" that Lana explains to me that her shoes are made to keep morale high!
The Paradiso collection presented at Altaroma 2020 - the fashion week that was held in Rome from 15 to 17 September - is inspired by birds and, in particular, by the birds of paradise.
If I were an animal I would surely be a bird flying high and free in the sky.

TASSELS ARE OPTIONAL
Lana Volkov's shoes are customizable: some straps and tassels can, in fact, be added or removed to better suit everyone's taste.
I believe we have to learn to understand women, because every woman is different. It’s important to be proud of who you are and I express this idea with my love of art by creating shoes that are wearable and compliment all types of women, my aim is to make the silhouette of the foot more beautiful, elegant and why not, sexy!
FEET ACCORDING TO LANA
What I haven't told you yet is that Lana, before becoming a designer, Lana was a painter and dancer.
Although my dream was to always work in the footwear industry, drawing, painting and dancing (hip hop, tap and contemporary) helped me grow as person artistically, emotionally and creatively. These activities inspired me and allowed me to blossom and find my happiness and strength to pursue my shoe dreams.
Now I call myself a SHOE ARTIST, where shoes have become the means of communication for my art.
I have always loved shoes, in fact as a child I collected shoes sometimes taking my mother’s shoes, I would re-design them, cutting them into parts to make my own personalised creations. I did this because I wanted to wear footwear that was unique, bold and representative of my personal style. Now that I think about it, my grandmother does the same thing too! She re-designs her clothes and shoes, so it’s in my DNA!
Volkov shoes are designed to make walking more comfortable without forgetting the details that enhance the shape of the foot: it is like the shoes would be enveloping the foot.
The materials used to make the shoes are carefully selected. Lana's research extends to the study of unique materials, sustainability and innovative textiles, such as using metals, plastics and wood.
